At this year’s WARR Networking Event, Edmond Wempe from TechEducation gained insights into the projects of the TUM student group, which is working on ambitious projects related to space. The Scientific Working Group for Rocket Technology and Spaceflight exclusively builds its own satellites and research rockets. Phoenix Contact has supported the working group around Phoenix Contact shareholder Moritz Eisert with products for the construction of the current ground station.
The components were used in a new generation of ground equipment to coordinate the refueling and launching of the rockets and incidentally to monitor important measurement data such as temperature and pressure. The ground station will be used for rocket launches in 2023. One of the two rockets will be the first student-built rocket with two liquid propellants, liquid oxygen and ethanol, and will participate in a competition with the goal of reaching an altitude of exactly 10 km. The hardware used on the ground will also be evaluated.
